Ambulance: I’m sorry!!!

Written by RSS Poster Emergency Egg

It was a cold crisp winters morning. The sky still dark, the moon full looking down. Frost covering the grass as you lay there still, peaceful and silent.

They started the shift like any other, catching up on the week, the usual banter flying to and fro waiting to see what jobs may come in unaware of what was to come.

As you lay there, she watched you, confused scared not knowing what to do, where to turn.

The screen lights up, they jump in and head of into the crisp morning dark silent concentrating on the job ahead.

She stands up and walks out the room, leaving where you lay, asleep and still.

The street lights up with flashes of blue lights. , the shrill of the siren breaking the quite of the early morning. They jump out grabbing bags and running to the already open door.

As you lay in silence, the sound of heavy boots coming up the footpath desperate shouting as they come through the door. They are met with silence ad they shout trying to find you.

You wait, you can’t call back, they keep shouting to try to find you. They shout to each...

Ambulance: Fire & EMS Blog of the year!! (not yet anyway)

Written by RSS Poster Emergency Egg

Ok, so here it is, apparently this blog has been voted and sent off to a competition that I had absolutely no idea of!!!!

Firstly and foremost Thank You to all of the people that have read this blog over the year! Yes it has only been a year since I started this a random outlet for my thoughts. I never once thought that there would be such a following as I felt it was just me randomly writing about how things went.

Having got poor results at school and also constant battles with my English teacher, she will probably be turning in her grave now but Thank You Mrs battle-axe for forcing me to write 500++ word essays every week

So although this is only a short post it probably has the only request I will ever make of you !!!

VOTE FOR ME

all you have to do is click on the picture at the top or bottom of this post and fill in the details.

Be Safe………………….

Ella x

“So” I hear you say, you hear about this daily and that it’s not really news. Well people it is news and WILL NOT be accepted! I will tell you I HAVE knowledge of being in these situations, It SCARES the hell out of you, not knowing if you are going to live or die! Extreme comment yes! But that is what you feel at the time.

Ambulance: CPR WORKS PEOPLE!!!

Written by RSS Poster Emergency Egg

Life is a funny old thing, there are highs and there are lows, there is anger, there is love, there is loss and there is companionship but ultimately life ends and when it does we who love and do this job WILL FIGHT for your LIFE like its our own!

I have done this job for a number of years and to be perfectly honest when the job comes in Cardiac Arrest regardless of age, I feel sorrow because I know a lot of the time the outcome is statistically not good.

Now I am sure most people have seen the new British Heart Foundations ad showing Mr Jones (just in case he gets angry at me) doing a Wonderful job of chest compression only CPR if not follow the link below…

Right now you have seen that I will let you into a secret. I like it because, the thought of giving someone mouth to mouth without protections fills me with dread. Thank God for Bag Valve Masks……

A lot of the Cardiac Arrests we do the person involved is in a bad way, the heart rhythm is not a shockable one and when it is we generally send it to asystole (flat line). However every now...

Ambulance: Human Decency (Is there any left?)

Written by RSS Poster Emergency Egg

It was during the season of good will to all men (women and children as well) so not to be shot down by political correctness.

Time and time again I ramble on about how human nature amazes me, how in the face of destruction the human race can forget about their differences and unite to ward of what ever danger faces them. It is in the news constantly when there are massive natural disasters the world unites to help those affected. So generally the human race is quite a decent lot, or so I thought until recently…..

As I write this I am fully aware that this is not going to be a normal post for me, something that I can not put into words easily. I have tried to write this in so many ways and deleted and edited it time and time again. I have come to realise that the best way is to write it as it comes to me, because this is how I feel. It may not make a huge amount of sense and may even seem to some as just another ambulance worker ranting on about how the world is wrong.

Yes there are things that are not nice, Death and...

Ambulance: Emotions – We have feelings too!

Written by RSS Poster Emergency Egg

OK here we go, a little known fact to a lot of people out there Ambulance Folk DO have feelings! That is Official.

Wow, Really” you say! and that people is the sad part of my job. We can be expected to work hour after hour shift after shift seeing the saddest and happiest moments in people’s lives without even a thought for our selves.

When I say ambulance people I am also including the wider community of ambulance folk from the Patient transport Service, Community First Responders (CFR), Paramedic Emergency Service and Control Staff , although I am still not sure if Control have any emotion! No I didn’t mean that guys I need an on time finish :-)

Why am I writing this post? Two fold really, firstly because I want to highlight to the wider community that the work we do in this “Essential Service” (Yes have a look we are still NOT considered an emergency service) has a massive impact on the emotional state of mind. Secondly and possibly more importantly to me, is that blogging about all this helps me deal with it.

Ambulance: Remembrance Sunday 2011

Written by RSS Poster Emergency Egg

They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
